The Video That Helped Katrina Grow Her Business with Authenticity

When Katrina Bourke reached out to create a video for her emerging leaders program, the goal wasn’t to showcase the curriculum — it was to capture the story. As a human-centred leadership coach, speaker, and author, Katrina helps leaders stay grounded and lead with quiet confidence. This project was a reflection of that ethos.

What unfolded was a project I’m incredibly proud of — not just for the final product, but for the genuine connection and personal growth it represented for everyone involved.

🎬 The Challenge: Capturing the Personal Within the Professional

The video was intended to document the journey of participants going through Katrina’s leadership development program, primarily for future marketing. But with personal development so tightly woven into the process, many participants were understandably hesitant to go on camera.

We began filming with a simple, honest conversation — no scripts, no pressure, just a round-circle chat where I explained who I am, how I work, and most importantly, how I would genuinely honour their stories.

🎥 The Process: Minimal Setup, Maximum Trust

My filming style is always minimal. A camera, a couple lights, and a quiet, respectful environment that allows the real story to emerge naturally. What may have felt "ordinary" to me turned out to be a safe, welcoming space for the participants to open up.

The interviews revealed a common thread: although the program was designed for school leadership, it became deeply personal for each participant. This insight shaped the story arc of the final film.

✂️ The Edit: Telling the Story from Their Eyes

The final edit focused on letting the participants lead the narrative. Their reflections formed the backbone of the video, paired with peaceful b-roll from the stunning retreat-style location. It was a story told with calm, care, and clarity — much like Katrina’s coaching itself.

In addition to the main film, I also created:

  • A 15-second trailer

  • Four testimonial-style 15-second clips for social media

💬 The Response

When Katrina viewed the final film, I heard from her manager:

“Katrina has had a look and is really happy with it!”

Since then, the videos have been used on her website and across social media, helping future clients and collaborators better understand the depth and intention behind her work.

💡 Why This Project Matters

This video reflects everything I believe in as a storyteller — authenticity, empathy, and purpose. It wasn't just about marketing a program, it was about honouring the transformation that took place within it.

If your work involves meaningful human experiences — whether you're in coaching, education, wellness, or leadership — a video like this can help others truly understand the impact of what you do.

🎯 Thinking About Telling Your Story?

If you're unsure about being on camera, don’t stress.
I don’t use scripts. I don’t overload you with gear.
We just have a real conversation — and the cameras happen to be rolling.
